1. This soil lacks in phosphate, nitrogen and carbon compounds and is not so fertile. A fertile soil will contain all the major nutrients for basic plant nutrition as well as other nutrients needed in smaller quantities. 2. It is used for the cultivation of coarse grains like jowar, barley, etc. Cereal other than rice and wheat are called as coarse grains. They have very high nutritional value.Examples- jowar, bajra, ragi and maize.
